Handwritten diary of Samuel Parker kept during his trek across the Great Plains from Winchester, Iowa (April 14, 1845) to Oregon City, Oregon (November 8, 1845); elected captain of party; lost wife and one child while following Stephen Meek on his "short-cut" to the Willamette Valley.
